Camp Nonna 2011

SATURDAY
6/25/11

After meeting Wendi and the kids at the gas station we went over to Burger King for a treat. We ordered shakes or Hershey pie and then we headed home to Nonna’s. We had fun playing games on the phones. We especially had fun with Matt’s phone and his Zombie camera app. We finally arrived at Nonna’s and Poppa’s house. Caitlin spotted Poppa’s red corvette in the back yard immediately as she was walking in the house and yelled out “Wow, Poppa has a red Ferrari!!! Soon after arriving at Nonna’s house we started making things with clay so it could dry in time. Wesley was not interested in crafts so he rode the motorcycle around the yard. He did finally go up on the porch and cut one thing out with a cookie cutter. Carissa found the jar of candy and everyone discovered that they absolutely LOVED lemon drops!! We then all went swimming and had a really fun time playing with Matt. Matt said if it worked out he would come next summer to play with us. Nonna grilled hotdogs for dinner. Caitlin didn’t want a wiener in her bun, but had mustard, ketchup, mayo and Cheetoes. She said it was good. She also put chips in her shake later. Carissa named it a death dog. After dinner we went back swimming and we made our own dessert with ice cream, milk, and Oreo cookies. Wesley said he was a great chocolate smoothie blender and he could sell them. He said he would call them Wesley’s Chocolate Smoothies. Caitlin said she was just going to mix milk and chocolate together and sell chocolate milk to all the poor people. We were all really noisy in the pool and we had fun swimming in the dark. We went upstairs to get ready for bed and had our bedtime train. Wesley was really tired and wanted to be dropped off first. Even though everyone was tired we did have a hard time falling asleep. Every one found a book to look at. Carsten started reading one that was given to Great-Great-Grandmother by her father in 1906! We did not get in bed until after 11 PM! Everyone finally fell asleep. Wesley woke up and went into Nonna & Poppa’s room around midnight. After he fell asleep Nonna put him back in bed with Maddie. He got back in bed with Nonna and Poppa around 5 AM. He ended up falling out of bed. He said he wasn’t hurt and he didn‘t cry, there was just a loud thud when he fell. He did have a small place on his chin that looked like it may have been hit, but it was hard to tell if it was from his fall.

Sunday
6/26/11

Those who didn’t shower last night showered in the morning. We had cereal and/or oatmeal for breakfast. We love to have oatmeal that we had extra brown sugar to. Carsten also had eggs with ‘juicy” yolks. We went to church and behaved pretty well. Wesley went to Caitlin’s primary class. Maddie, Carsten and Carissa’s were all in one class since Florence Primary is so small. Carsten had a crush on a little girl who was visiting. She is a little French girl. Carsten said she was “hot”. Nonna said he was too young to call a girl hot! He said, “that is what she said to me”, as he was pointing to the Young Adult who had been his Primary teacher. His teacher then said to Nonna, “Have ‘ FUN’ this week!” We were really hungry when we went home. The girls had Ravioli, Carsten wanted rice and black beans, and Wesley had a grilled cheese sandwich. Poppa then had to take Matt to Charleston. Poppa had to go to work Sunday morning. We started watching a movie but ended up playing dress up and dancing. Carsten was playing like he was a vampire and then a photographer. Unfortunately Carsten did not realize he had changed the setting on the camera accidently so most of the pictures did not turn out well. He did take a picture of the “jellyfish in glass” that was very artistic. Carissa even wants a print of it to display. Nonna picked up while we were watching TV. Carissa made some gooey brownies with chocolate chips and marshmallows. Poppa arrived home about that time and he made us Macaroni and cheese while Nonna went with her friend to take our clay pieces to the school to be fired. When Nonna came back we ate dinner and Nonna made our desserts-a gooey brownie with ice cream, whipped topping and chocolate chips – yum, yum. We played outside for a little bit then worked on a craft project. Wesley wasn’t interested again so he rode the motorcycle around again. Carsten kept everyone supplied with frozen pops that were in the freezer. Everyone went to bed earlier then last night (9:30) Wesley came downstairs because he was afraid. Caitlin said she would sleep with him a protect him, but it didn’t work.

Monday
6/27/11

Monday – Shopping day. Wesley said he was proud when he woke up around 6 AM that he slept all night. He had been waking up in the middle of the night and getting in bed with Nonna and Poppa. We went to Toys-R-Us first. We each had $5 to spend and they were having some good clearance sales. Nonna did not want us to buy $5 of Dollar Store Junk. Carsten found some great deals pretty quick and became the price check runner for everyone else. Wesley had corvette taste on a VW budget. He wanted a car but not the ones in his range. Nonna finally said she had to go help the girls and would get back to the car isle. He was not a happy camper and declared all girl toys stupid. Meanwhile, Carsten was keeping track of just how long everyone else was taking to pick out their toys. Carissa eventually found some good deals. Caitlin pretty much must have every toy in the store and didn’t need another one. We also didn’t know how much she hated dogs and cats! She finally did find something. Maddie couldn’t find anything so she would save her money for later. Going back to the car section, Wesley finally settled on a car and had $1 for the Dollar Store. Carsten informed it took 1 ½ hours for everyone to pick out the toys in Toys R Us. Nonna would have guessed it was MUCH longer. The store employees probably felt it was much longer also. Next, on to the Dollar Store where Carsten quickly found Wesley a bow and arrow. Carsten was making sure we didn’t spend another 1 ½ in a store! Maddie found some lip gloss and Carissa spent her left over $1 and some of her own money. Then, on to Wal-mart to get some essentials like chocolate sauce and frozen waffles. Maddie was also able to spend the rest of her money on candy. We stopped by Nonna’s school for lunch and then back home. We then played in the pool and had a water balloon fight. It was lots of fun. We had tacos for dinner and of course ice cream for dessert.

Tuesday
6/28/11

Tuesday- We had to wake up early because we had to be at Nonna’s school at 8 AM to paint our ceramics. We had fun painting and didn’t make too big of mess in the Art Room. After painting the clay pieces we painted with water colors on paper. We were back home by 9:30 and on the road to Myrtle Beach by 10 AM. Poppa was able to take the day off from work. We found a parking place right where we wanted to park. The beach was pretty crowded and very windy. We ate when we first arrived, and then pretty much snacked the rest of the day. The lifeguards really didn’t want anyone swimming much. After a short while we went up to play at the pool. We loved the kiddy pool area and the lazy river. We went back and forth between the different pools inside and out. It was lots of fun! About 5 PM we went back to the beach. It was really windy and hard to control the boogie boards. The water was all the way up to our chairs and they had been really far back when we first put them there. We played in the sand and then had to pack up the car. It was so windy it was really hard to keep the boards from flying all over. The sand hurt when it hit our legs. After taking all the beach stuff up we went back inside to swim and then we took showers and headed home. We wanted to eat at Burger King (we saw what neat toys the kids’ meal had when we had our snack Saturday) but only found a McDonalds. Turns out they had good prizes also. Wesley had fallen asleep and he slept the entire time we ate. On the way home Caitlin also fell asleep so Poppa carried both to bed. We stayed up and had a root beer float and watched a TV show. We begged Nonna to let us watch it since none of us have cable at home we are being deprived of ever being able to see it again. Nonna was wondering if the theme next year should be –“ CABLE TV- everything you have been missing”
Wednesday
6/29/11

The Splash Pad didn’t open until 11 AM so we were in no rush. Maddie slept until almost 9:30 AM. The rest of us were up pretty early. Nonna almost stepped on Wesley when she got out of bed he was laying on the floor perpendicular to the bed. We don’t know what time he got up and went into their room. Carissa had her normal frozen waffle and Caitlin decided to join her today. Carsten had his favorite – Maple and Brown Sugar Oatmeal with lots of extra brown sugar. Maddie had her waffles toasted when she finally ate breakfast. Wesley was given the choice of eating the hamburger that was bought for him last night but he kept saying he didn’t want breakfast. Finally he just said he was fasting for breakfast! He didn’t seem to get hungry until minutes after breakfast was cleared and we were getting ready to leave. We went to the splash pad. A friend of Nonna’s from church met us there. She has an 8 year old girl and a 6 year old boy. Carsten finally had fun playing with Parker and the lizards they found. They killed lots of flies to tempt the lizards. They were both pretty slow at not being shy. They played games side by side first on phones until they finally started talking to each other. They finally started playing in the water. Nonna had lots of snacks so we snacked non-stop. Caitlin had lots of fun playing with Haley and Wesley. Maddie and Carissa played together.

We left around 4:30 PM and discovered they had built an archery range complete with a tower at the campground. We were hoping to go to the Nature Center and the Canopy Walk but it was already closed. Wesley fell asleep on the way home. We made our own pizzas for dinner. Caitlin’s made a surprise pizza with a hidden layer. She put on lots and lots of cheese, then lots of pepperoni, then another thick layer of cheese. You could not even tell it had pepperoni on it. Carsten’s was LOADED with pepperoni. Maddie’s had a design with a lot of pepperoni. Carissa’s was very neatly done with no sauce on the edge and 6 pieces of pepperoni very carefully spaced around it. After dinner we watched TV while Poppa finished his dinner and then we went for a ride his “red Ferrari”. Carsten showed Caitlin where the name of the car was on the back of the car and it was not a Ferrari! The girls sat up behind the seats and waved like they were in a parade as Poppa rode them around the neighborhood. Carsten was in the front passenger seat waving. One lady saw us and yelled out “You all look beautiful!!’’. We came home with big plans of making fliers to put in everyone’s mailbox to advertize a parade we would put on tomorrow. Nonna told us she already had made plans for something else tomorrow evening. We then ate ice cream in bed. Wesley woke up (or was woken up!) right before this and so he joined us. After we ate our ice cream Wesley got sick. Maddie was worried he might be dying but Nonna didn’t feel there was really much wrong. She reminded Wesley about when he threw up all over his Dad a few weeks ago, and that got him laughing. For some reason he finds that really funny. He also started perking up when he found out he could watch a movie until he was tired again since he just had a 4 hour “nap”.
